NOVEMBER KEY POINTS

TREND ESTIMATES

  • The trend estimate for cattle slaughterings rose for the third consecutive month, to 649,200. Numbers slaughtered have started to rise again partly as a response to warm and dry conditions in northern New South Wales and Queensland.
  • The trend estimate for sheep slaughterings rose for the third consecutive month, to 780,300. The increase has been influenced by farmers looking to off-load stock prior to harvesting.
  • The trend estimate for mutton production rose for the fourth consecutive month, to 17,000 tonnes.
